Teeth whitening is a simple process. Whitening products contain one of two bleaches (hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide). These bleaches break stains into smaller pieces, which makes the colour less concentrated and your teeth brighter.
Boutique teeth whitening by day is a 6% hydrogen peroxide gel, containing potassium nitrate, which is proven desensitiser. Worn for only one hour per day, the gel is designed for patients who want a fast, comfortable and convenient solution to whiter teeth. This gel releases large quantities of oxygen free radicals (which whiten the teeth) over a short period of time, therefore whitening teeth both quickly and safely. The fast results are visible in less than a week.
By night is a carbamide peroxide gel available in a 10% or 16%, containing potassium nitrate, which is proven desensitizer. Worn for four hours, or overnight, the night gel is designed for patients who would prefer to not have their custom trays in during the day and would prefer to whiten whilst they are asleep. This gel releases oxygen free radicals (which whiten the teeth) over a longer period of time, owing to its sustained release. This gradual approach will still give fantastic results, because of the length of time the gel stays active.
Does teeth whitening work on everybody?
Unfortunately no, which is why it’s important to talk to your dentist before deciding to whiten your teeth, as whiteners may not be able to correct all types of discoloration. For example, yellow teeth will probably bleach well, brown teeth may not respond as well and teeth with grey tones may not bleach at all. Whitening will not work on crowns, fillings, dentures or implants. It also won’t be effective if your tooth discoloration is caused by medications or a tooth injury.
Are there any side effects to teeth whitening?
Boutique teeth whitening should only be prescribed by a Dentist. As long as you don’t have any allergic reactions to the ingredients in the product you should have no side effects.
What are my options?
Boutique teeth whitening day and night options are made for home use and in house dental checks to make sure you get the safest and best results. If your dentist decides tooth whitening isn’t the solution for your problems, look into cosmetic bonding and dental implants.
How can I maintain white teeth?
Brushing and flossing are everyday ways to keep your teeth bright, white and healthy. Try avoiding or limiting the number of drinks and foods that stain your teeth, such as coffee, red wine, curries, tomato based sauces etc. Consider using Biomin toothpaste, the first and only toothpaste approved by The Oral Health Foundation. Investing in a good toothpaste that not only fights tooth decay and eases tooth sensitivity but it also helps replace lost minerals for overall improved oral health. Make sure you see your dentist every six months for a teeth clean and check up.
