Teeth Whitening and Sensitivity

When teeth whitening is carried out under the supervision of a dental professional, it is both safe and effective.  However, patients may experience some sensitivity afterwards, which is temporary and can be minimised with a little planning and after care.

Before The Treatment

Your dentist may recommend a de-sensitising toothpaste and/or gel, to be used up to 10 days prior to the treatment.

You may also take the precaution of using Ibuprofen, but do talk to your dentist or dental practitioner about this.

Afterwards

Continue to use the desensitising toothpaste and/or gel for two days.

Avoid hot or very cold drinks for 1 – 2 days.

Avoid drinks with a high acid content.

Use a straw for all drinks.

Use a soft toothbrush and lukewarm water to brush your teeth.

Use fluoride toothpaste and/or mouthwash.
