What snacks can I have to keep my teeth white?
We often rely on snacking to carry us through our days. We all get the urge to graze but often find ourselves lost in packets of biscuits and boxes of chocolate.
Chocolate, coffee, sweets – they all have high potential for staining our teeth, which darkens our smiles.
Did you know you can snack on certain foods that gradually work to whiten your teeth over time? Of course they aren’t as effective as professionally whitening your teeth but they are natural and cheap.
Here’s a list of snacks to start grazing on;
Strawberries- They contain an enzyme called malic acid and this helps to whiten our teeth.
Celery- A crunchy, healthy stain remover which also fights bad breath.
Apples- A natural stain remover which increases saliva production in your mouth as you chew.
Carrots- Nature’s natural cleaning brush, killing bad breath – and the crunch factor again scrubs teeth while you eat.
Oranges- A tart fruit which also causes the mouth to produce more saliva which washes teeth as you eat.
Pineapples- A tart fruit which again produces saliva and helps to clean teeth as you eat. Be aware eating acidic fruits can be good but in moderation, as acidity can damage teeth. Make sure to rinse your mouth with water after eating.
Cheese/Yogurt- Little cubes of hard cheese are a good snack choice because they remove food particles as you chew and contain lots of lactic acid which helps fight tooth decay.
Always rinse your mouth with water after eating, if possible brushing your teeth 30 minutes to 1 hour after food, to help maintain a clean, white, healthy smile.
